NORTHERN NOTES

TWO BIG SHOWS FOR N.W. P.C. ENTHUSIASTS

MARCH 20TH is the next big date for NWPC. The annual NW Area Contests and show organised by Bert Loveday and usually a grand turn out. I hope it will be again this year as tickets are very reasonable. See "What's On" for full details.

April 17th-Easter Saturday is the date picked by Harold Wrigley, Northern Health Studios, for the other big NW show. See "What's On", page 4, for full details.

So, the two NW shows are within three weeks of each other though Harold's is at the Crane Theatre, Liverpool. See "What's On" for details.

The final heat of the Mr. Del Sol Contest organised by Ken Latham was won by Pat Nugent, with John Hill second and Ron Collins third. Maurice Wilson won the last novice heat.

In the final, a much improved Trevor Cording of Droylesden won with Pat Nugent of Stretford second and John Hill of Oldham third. The novice winner was Frank Turnock.

The judges for the final were Ken Latham, Bert Loveday, Harold Wrigley, Henry Bebbington and Eric Redfern.

Jim McCulloch of Wallasey, who has not been in the PC news a great deal of late because of other business commitments, staged a show and dance on behalf of the Rock Barbell Club.

Novice Mr. Wallasey was won by Gerry Hulse, entering his first contest at thirty-six. Junior Mr. Wallasey was Roland Brookes, also NABBA member.

Tony Haynes, a member of the Rock Club and former Britain finalist, gave a posing item. A demonstration on the Strength Lifts between Bob Memery and Bert Owen at 13 stone produced 1801b. Curl, 430lb. Bench Press and 560lb. Squat ! The Wallasey Judo Club gave a fine exhibition.

Only bare details received two days after the lifting, but it seems to have been a top class effort, with representatives in all classes and a thrilling finish with organiser Barry Anderson winning the heavies by virtue of lighter bodyweight.
